Week 04/2026

MIL & FIL - Chennai visit

It’s been a slow week. It’s always a horrid feeling to get back to the grind after a long weekend. Firstly, Pongal weekend and now Republic Day on Monday. My MIL & FIL are in town for a visit, since both my wife & her sister stay in Chennai. They stayed for three days at our house and my MIL went back to sisters place with a cold, because of rainy weather in Chennai. Trying to lose weight when you’re MIL is in town is nearly impossible. Might go up two kilograms. That said, I’ve been following a healthy diet and I got some recommendations from friends as well on reducing weight. Good news is I lost about 3 Kilos in 12 days by eating less sugary items and reducing portion of food intake. I haven’t started any workouts yet.

Rental apartment search continues

We are still on the look out for a new rented house to move closer to wife’s office (possible relocation) to Sholinganallur. Some of the owners I’ve talked to demand exorbitant amounts as rent which made me laugh out loud. The thought of moving is exhausting. This would be our third house in 4.5 years. Our current homeowner is a godsend, no nonsense, gem of a person. It’s going to be hard to expect the same from the next person. Fingers crossed!

Update on Dad’s injury

Dad’s been recovering well. He has taken doctor’s advice seriously and started taking some precautions for reducing sugar. My wife suggested some alternatives to eat to replace what he was currently eating. I can see the wound almost healed. I’ve told him to be careful still. My entire wife-side family visited both my mom & dad and surprisingly, even my cousin visited them. Good to hear positive observations & feedback about mom’s progress compared to last time they visited.

Lost & Found

Spent the day with mom & dad on Saturday and guess what! Found my lost microphone. Samson Q2U! I’ve searched for this in two houses thoroughly, the entire month. Finally found it hidden in my berow at parents house 😆. I was contemplating getting an AM8 microphone from Fifine during the Amazon sale just one day prior. Luckily I was able to find it along with the mount stand and saved like ₹5k. Looks like someone kept this here to be safe - I remember I have brought some items to my parent’s house while trying to move from Adambakkam to Velachery.

Weekend travel

Wife wanted to take MIL & gang to Vedanthangal. That wasn’t possible because of the rain. We took our car out from the tiny rat hole of a parking slot and first went to Zaitoon, ECR. We were a party of 6 so had to wait for like 15-20 minutes before finally getting a table. Food was meh and the service was so delayed that we got irritated a couple of times. Overall, wouldn’t recommend at all. We went here because the Madras Square restaurants (+ The Beach) were fully booked. Then we planned to go to VGP Marine Kingdom. It was just around the opposite lane but the parking queue was insanely long. Quickly backed out seeing that, and we started driving towards Mahabalipuram. It started raining very heavily and vision wasn’t so great. We again backed out when we saw that there wasn’t a proper parking spot near the museum. Transferred MIL from our car to sisters car near a cafe and then went straight to home. Looking at my Honda app, it took me about 2 hours to get back with heavy traffic and water logged roads. We knew the real nightmare was getting the car back to the parking lot. We somehow managed to bring it in, cleaned the car with wet & dry cloth and covered with our rat cover.

End of another week in January. I’m still making some unnecessary changes to my blog, tinkering around with Amp. I got to find some time next week to settle on a layout and to setup OBS for my microphone to stream with it. We’ll see how it goes.
